Kaori Ito has studied Classical Ballet under TAKAGI Syuntoku since she was five years old in Tokyo. At the age of eighteen, she starts her profession as a dancer and choreographer and was awarded by Ryouiti Enomoto for being the best young dancer and choreographer performing solo at the ST spot, Yokohama.( 1998)
Upon studying at Purchase College, State University of New York, she learns Graham, Cunningham, Limon, and Horton techniques. In 2002, she received [Yokohama Cultural Foundation Award], choreographing and performing solo in "Yokohama Dance Collection[Solo & Duo competition]" (Prix de la FOUNDATION POUR LA CULTURE DE LA VILLE DE YOKOHAMA)
In 2004, she received [National Conference Award], choreographing and performing duet in [Rencontres choregraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Deni].
From 2004, she goes to New York as the Japanese Government Overseas Program for Artists. She stuied at [Alvin Ailey Dancce Theater]. She works with Naini Chen dance.
Druing her stay in N.Y, she has also choreographed and danced at Joyce Soho Presents, and did a residency at Queens Museum of Art. From 2003 to 2005, she dances a main role for Philippe Découflé IRIS. She also worked with Veronique Caye for her theater piece Line] by Ryu Murakami. In 2005, she joined Ballet Preljocaj (CCN de aix-en-provence) with Angelin Preljocaj for les 4 saisons. From 2006, she works with James Thiérrée for Good Bye Umbrella. She works also with Sidi Larbi Sherkaoui as his assistant for the film[Le bruit des gens autour] with Lea Drucker. She also choreographed Clemence Poesy ( Harry Porter ) for the future film Sans Moi, directed by Olivier Panchot
In 2006, She works for Edouard Bear for his creation as a choreographer. In 2008, she starts her own production Noctiluque produced by Theatre-vidy, Lausanne, Theatre de Colomb and Theatre de Orleon. In 2009, she works as a soloist in The house of sleeping beauty by Guy Cassiers with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. In the same year, she presents SOLOS at National Theater of Marseille and in Japan. She also presents Island of no memories and receive 1st prize from (Re)connaissance, national competition for the choreographers.
She also receives two awards for being the best young choreographer of 2010 and for JADAFO awards from Japan. In 2010 she works with Alain Platel "Ballets C. de la B." for Out of Context. In 2011, she collaborates with Denis Podalydes in Le Cas Jekyll 2. In 2012, she continues to work with Podalydès as a choreographer for Le bourgeois gentilhomme and for L'homme qui se hait and signs co-choreography with Aurelien Bory for her portrait Plexus
