Sakasama No Sekai

Adaptation of the show for young audiences An Upside-down world in Japanese version

By Kaori Ito – creation June 2023
From 4 to 150 years old

“I believe that the imagination of children can save the world. I have been dealing for some time in my performances with the subjects that obsess children. Both artists and children cultivate their imagination to create dreams and hopes.

In 2021, I created the show An Upside-down world around children’s secrets after collecting children’s words. Three superheroes are dancing with the help of children and they need their imagination to keep the performance going. I would like to recreate this performance with three dancers and a Japanese actor in partnership with the Kanagawa art theater in Yokohama, Japan in 2023. In Japan, children grow up with screens and the world of theater is in danger because younger generations are not used to going to the theater. I think this situation is terrible because Japan is a country of fine and sensitive culture where the theater is thought of as a place of sharing. For Japanese children, it is difficult to expose their inner world in front of other children and it takes time. It is therefore doubly necessary to take the necessary time to work with the children and performers, to understand their fine ways of expression in order to be able to produce a performance that speaks about them and gives them courage and confidence.”
